German luxury car manufacturer Audi has hiked prices of its select models in India, effective March 16. The increase in ‘Q’ range of sports utility vehicles is close to 2.5 per cent and sporty performance range – R8 and RS5 - is close to 15 per cent. Prior to the hike, the ‘Q’ series was priced between Rs 27 lakh and Rs 74 lakh, and R8 base version at Rs 1.32 crore. The RS5 was priced at Rs 82 lakh (all ex-showroom, Maharashtra). “According to the 2013-14 Union Budget, there has been an upward revision in customs duty and excise duty, based on conditional clause on select models. Due to this development, we are forced to make a correction in our prices,” said Michael Perschke, Head, Audi India. The company sells about 12 models in India.
