Audi India, on Thursday, said it would aim at selling more than 10,000 cars in the country by the end of this year, up from 9,003 sold in 2012.
It also launched Audi R8 V10 plus for the Indian consumers at Rs 2.10 crore (ex-showroom, New Delhi) and Rs 2.06 crore (ex-showroom, Maharashtra).
“India was the fastest growing market for Audi in 2012 after China and with the responses we are getting, we aim to achieve around 20 per cent growth in sales this year from what we sold last year,” Michael Perschke, Head, Audi India, told reporters.
He said though the sales grew by 63 per cent in 2012 from 5,511 cars in 2011, the market seems a bit tough in 2013 with concern over inflation and tax increases, but still the company will maintain its growth in India.
The company sold 775 cars in February, signifying a growth of 29 per cent compared with 600 cars, in the corresponding month last year. He said the company will launch 7-8 cars including couple of models from its global portfolio, which will be launched in course of time within this year, to grow the sales. With the launch of its second edition of its super sports car R8, the company now has the whole family of R8s (new R8, Spyder and V10 plus) for the Indian consumers.
The V10 plus has features such as zooming from 0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds with a top speed of 317km/ h. The new car houses 5.2 litre petrol direct injection engine. The first R8 was launched in late 2008 and since then the company has sold more than 100 units till now across these variants.
“I am confident that this high performance super sportscar will allow us to further build upon our leadership position in the super sports car segment in India and maintain the iconic position of the R8 in India,” Perschke said.
With the launch of the V10 plus, the luxury cars manufacturer now has 14 models to offer that includes A4, A6, A7 Sportback, A8L, Q3, Q5, Q7, RS5 Coupe and TT Coupe.
It currently manufactures the Audi A4, A6, Q5 and Q7 at its facility in Aurangabad.
