Luxury car maker Audi India on Wednesday said it has revised its sales target upwards by over 10 per cent to up to 5,000 units for 2011 on account of robust growth during the first four months of the year.
“Going by the growth that we have seen in the first four months of this year, we believe that we can sell more cars in 2011 than we expected before.
“Earlier, we were looking to sell about 4,500 units. Now we think, we can sell between 4,800 units to 5,000 units this year,” Audi India Head Mr Michael Perschke told reporters here.
During January-April this year, the company has sold 1,986 units as against 967 units in the same period a year-ago. In April, the company sold 375 units, compared to 198 units in the same month last year. In the entire year 2010, the company had sold 3,003 units in India.
Audi India today launched two new cars - A7 Sportpack with price starting from Rs 64 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), available in both petrol and diesel options and RS5 Coupe that is priced at Rs 76 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) in petrol version only.
On the possibility of bringing in smaller compact vehicles in India, Mr Perschke said: “We will be launching Q3 model sometime next year. The A3, which was showcased at Geneva motor show this year, has received good feedback and now we will see what will be the response from the customers in the Indian market”. He, however, said it is too early to introduce the smaller cars like ‘A1’ in India.
The company will be launching its new A6 sedan in August this year. “This year, the total market, in which we are present has also grown by nearly 60 per cent to touch about 5,500 units as against 3,500 units in the same period (Jan-April) last year. We want to grow faster than the market,” he added.
