Homegrown auto majors Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra are on par with their foreign counterparts in showcasing future mobility products at the Auto Expo.
In fact, the two have much bigger pavilions displaying a slew of future products, from small premium vehicles and electric three-wheelers to electric buses.
Mahindra said the products highlight its future-ready suite of passenger and mass mobility products, concepts and solutions built around its ‘3Cs’ philosophy of Clean, Connected and Convenient.
Unveiling the products, Anand Mahindra, Executive Chairman, Mahindra Group, said: “As India aspires to global leadership on climate action, the time is right to develop sustainable mobility solutions for the future. Mahindra’s electric pavilion at the Auto Expo showcases our vision of the Future of Mobility — one that offers clean, connected and convenient vehicles to our customers in India and around the world.”
The mobility solutions include the UDO, a stylish two-seater electric pod concept; the ATOM, an urban mobility solution; the Treo, a lithium-ion battery powered electric three-wheeler; the e2o NXT, a refreshed version of the e2oPlus hatchback; the eKUV100, India’s first electric mini SUV; and the e-Cosmo, the company’s new electric bus.
Mahindra also showcased SsangYong Motor’s new SUV G4 Rexton, which will be launched in India under a new brand name, and the TUV Stinger, the first Indian convertible SUV.
Tata Motors, as part of its two-architecture strategy, made the global unveiling of the H5Xconcept from the ‘Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced’ Architecture — a five-seater luxury SUV.
It also showcased the 45X concept, a premium hatchback based on the versatile ‘Agile Light Flexible Advanced’ architecture.
Speaking at the event, N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Group, said Tata Motors is committed to the future of mobility, specially the government’s vision in the electric vehicles space.
“We are making a serious commitment towards innovation and investment in the launch of a full range of products that will connect with the aspirations of our customers,” he said.
Later, he visited Mahindra’s pavilion, where he spent around 10 minutes to check out the Mahindra electric bus Comfio along with the senior executives of both companies.
With an eye on the government’s push for electric-only vehicles by 2030, Tata Motors is displaying an extended range of six EV products in personal and mass mobility segments.
Several auto executives, including from M&M and Honda Cars India, said the real game changer will be policy — whether the Centre brings out a new EV policy or retains the existing one.
