Bengaluru-based Babajob Services, which focusses on providing blue-collar jobs, is planning to raise $5-15 million in the first quarter of next year.

Part of the proceeds will be used to expand its operations would go for its foray into a few South-East Asian countries.

“We are considering a plan to expand our services to countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh and the Gulf countries where there is a huge scope for the service we offer,” Vir Kashyap, co-founder of Babajob Services, told

The firm has so far raised $12.5 million in two rounds, including $10 million from Australia-based online job provider SEEK.

Vir Kashyap returned to India from the US eight years ago to start the company with his co-founder Sean Blagsvedt.

With a database of 7 million job-seekers and 4.5 lakh employers, the firm provides match-making between the two, using a technology platform.

The database focusses on jobs in the areas such as sales, BPO, data-entry, cashier, receptionist, beautician, helpers, drivers and delivery boys.

While the basic package is free for employers, those with premium packages will be provided filtered results, helping the employers minimise their selection process. “They will get a relevant list that reduces the hassle of talking to too many job-seekers,” he said.

Researchers from American universities such as Harvard and Berkeley are using the database built by the company to study labour economics. The hiring levels in a country is a good indication of economic growth. “We keep getting requests from researchers seeking data to study the extent of availability of jobs and nature of jobs that are being filled up.”

About 50 of the company’s 160-strong workforce work on its technology platform.
