Bajaj Auto Ltd, a major manufacturer of three- and two-wheelers, has consolidated its market share during April 2011 to February 2012, even as the market has shrunk.

While the country's three-wheeler market has witnessed mixed patterns, with three-wheeler petrol passenger vehicles registering lower volumes, the diesel market has grown by about 2 per cent.

However, Bajaj Auto has registered a growth this year with diesel vehicles also complementing its overall volumes this year, Mr R.C. Maheshwari, President (Commercial), said.

Mr Maheshwari told Business Line the company had an overall share of 36 per cent last financial year.

This has gone up to 39.39 per cent driven by increasing volumes in diesel vehicles.

The company continues to hold nearly 85-86 per cent in petrol and alternative fuel option vehicles. The diesel vehicle segment has also contributed to volume growth this year. Bajaj Auto has developed a four-wheeler passenger auto and showcased it at the New Delhi Auto show.

The company expects to complete the new manufacturing facility at Aurangabad by September and commence commercial production for exports by December.

The company generates overall sales volumes of 45,000 vehicles a month, which includes significant contribution from exports to over 17-18 countries.

“We had logged a turnover of Rs 6,000 crore last year and expect to see the overall growth of up to 18 to 20 per cent this year,” he said.

The company expects to take the number of sales points up from 500 to 650 and increase the dealerships from 180 to 220, he said.
