Motorcycle manufacturer, Bajaj Auto, on Tuesday launched Discover 125 Sports Tourer (ST) here, looking a larger market share in the fast growing B—segment (125cc bikes).
“More and more customers are shifting to 125cc bikes, in which Bajaj enjoys a market share of 40 percent. We want to dominate in this segment and take our share to 50 per cent,” Bajaj’s motorcycle business president, Mr K Srinivas, said.
“With this new launch we are looking at double digit growth over the base volume,” he said.
Last month, the company had sold 1.2 lakh units of ’Discover’ in India across all categories like 100 cc, 125 cc and 150 cc.
According to the company, last year (2011—12) the motorcycle industry grew by 12 per cent in India, in which the B—segment grew by 38 per cent, which is the fastest growing segment.
“In the first quarter of this fiscal (2012—13) the motorcycle industry in India grew by 6.7 per cent, in which the 125 cc segment showed a growth of 39 per cent,” Mr Srinivas said.
“The share of 100 cc bikes has come down to 66 per cent, which two year back used to be around 73 per cent,” he said. The company has an annual production capacity of 4.75 million units.

The ex—showroom price of Discover 125 ST is Rs 55,391, in Gujarat. The company has sold around 3 lakh units of Discover since inception in Gujarat.
