After months of single-digit growth and even sometimes de-growth, Bajaj Auto sales have seen a major upswing, rising 22 per cent in March to 3.06 lakh units from 2.5 lakh units in the same month of 2015.
A filing to the BSE indicated that the Pune-based company’s motorcycle sales rose 26 per cent to 2.64 lakh from 2.10 lakh in March 2015.
Commercial vehicle sales rose 2 per cent to 41,551 units, making this the highest-ever number for any March. Exports stood 3 per cent higher at 1.02 lakh units.
For the 12-month period ended March 31, 2016, Bajaj Auto total sales were 2 per cent higher at 3.89 million units versus 3.81 million units in FY'15.
Motorcycle sales were 33.58 lakh against 32.92 lakh in the two years being compared, a rise of 2 per cent YoY. Exports at 17.40 lakh (18.06 lakh) units stood 4 per cent lower, while CV sales at 5.35 lakh units rose 3 per cent.
Cheered by the figures, the Bajaj Auto share touched a high of Rs 2,477 apiece and was trading at Rs 2,453.45 which is nearly 1.5 per cent higher one hour into morning trade on the BSE. The benchmark index was 0.38% higher.
