Bajaj Auto has posted strong growth in December, with a 13 per cent rise in total sales, despite the month being sluggish for the industry.
The Pune-based firm sold a total of 3.44 lakh vehicles in December, its highest ever dispatches for the month, compared with 3.06 lakh units sold during the same month a year ago, the company said in a statement.
Bajaj Auto sold 2.98 lakh motorcycles during the month under review, a 13 per cent increase from 2.64 units sold in December 2011. The company’s commercial vehicles sales rose 9 per cent to 45,596 units (41,991) during the reporting month.
The company said these were the highest-ever December sales for the company. Generally, December is a lean month for the automobile sector with most buyers postponing their purchases to the next calendar year. The company’s exports rose 5 per cent to 1.26 lakh units (1.20 lakh) in December 2012.
However, Bajaj Auto’s year-to-date sales of motorcycles were lower by 1 per cent and that of commercial vehicles were down by 9 per cent.
