Defence public sector undertaking, Bharat Earth Movers Ltd (BEML), has bagged Jaipur Metro order valued at Rs 318 crore.
The company, in a release, said the order is to manufacture, supply, test and commission 10 train sets of four-car each, totalling 40 cars to Jaipur Metro Project.
“It is anticipated that another Rs 60 crore worth order may be forthcoming for Jaipur Metro,” it added.
Currently, BEML is the supplier of metro cars to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRCL) and Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) and now it has added Jaipur Metro to its order basket.
The company also by virtue of its domain expertise in the manufacture of metro cars, has indigenously designed, developed and supplied intermediate metro cars to Delhi Metro to replace the existing four-car sets to six-car sets and thereby enhance the passenger-carrying capacity.
Affordable metro cars
Besides, BEML is in the process of designing and developing affordable metro cars to suit the upcoming metro projects in the country, targeted at Tier-II cities.
Recently, BEML had bagged the order for supplying 150 coaches, valued at about Rs 1,672 crore from Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation.
Bangalore Metro (Namma Metro) is being executed by a BEML-led consortium. The consortium includes Mitsubishi, and Hyundai-Rotem. While Mitsubishi would supply the traction for the coaches, Hyundai-Rotem would supply components. BEML would integrate, test and commission the coaches.
BEML is manufacturing and supplying equipment to the defence and aerospace, rail, metro, mining and construction sectors.
Besides, the company is also into the business of e-engineering, trading and dredging. The current order book of the company is around Rs 6,000 crore. It has set a turnover target of Rs 4,300 crore for the current financial year and Rs 5,000 crore for 2013-14 to coincide with company's Golden Jubilee Year.
