The West Bengal Government on Monday asked Dunlop India management to reopen the Sahagunj factory and settle the disputes through negotiation.
At a meeting with the company representatives, the State Commerce and Industry Minister, Mr Partha Chatterjee, had also promised steps to maintain law and order in and around the factory premises.
The State Labour Minister, Mr Purnendu Bose, was also present at the meeting. Dunlop cited law and order as one of the primary reasons for suspending operations at Sahagunj.
During the meeting, Dunlop representatives, led by Director, Mr S.K. Paul, said that the company would prefer to reopen the factory after signing a term wage pact. The last long-term wage pact had expired.
Captive power
The company also asked the State Government to approve Dunlop's proposal for setting up a captive power plant. The company, it is learnt will submit a report on “viability and labour requirement” to the State Government shortly.
