Baba Kalyani of Bharat Forge is in favour of the creation of an effective and organised supply chain for spare parts for army equipment.
"We now need to process procurement of spare parts through an organised supply chain. This can be learnt from the automobile industry globally," Kalyani said on Tuesday at AMICOM 2016, organised by CII.
The global supply chain for spare parts established by the automobile industry is apt for the armed forces as well.
"In the armed forces, this is the next step we need to embark upon. The IT industry has developed all these technologies. There are enough processes and technologies to make this happen. This will benefit the user and the industry," he added.
He also hailed the new Defence Procurement Procedure (DPP) 2016 and relaxation of FDI norms.
"We await further clarification on indigenous content in the next DPM," he added.
