Bharti Walmart centre in Hyderabad trains over 1,000 youth

More than 25,000 youth offered training across country

Bharti Walmart Training Centre in Hyderabad has trained over 1,000 youth and placed them in 293 jobs with various top ranking companies in the retail, banking and other sectors.

Thirty-three per cent of the total students trained and certified are women. The centre was inaugurated nine months ago.

Over 25,000 students have been certified in different centres and nearly 9,000 placed in jobs with various organisations including in Bharti Walmart’s Best Price Modern Wholesale and Bharti Retail’s Easyday and Easyday Market stores.

Bharti Walmart is a joint venture between Bharti group companies and Walmart group. The venture is for wholesale cash-and-carry and back-end supply chain management operations in India.

It has set up 18 Bharti Walmart Training Centres with the aim of offering retail training to help underprivileged youth get sustainable employment.

Six training centres, including the centre at Hyderabad, are being run under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model with the respective State Governments and eight in Best Price Modern Wholesale Stores. Four centres are being run in collaboration with the Hope Foundation.

Arti Singh, Senior Vice-President, Corporate Affairs, Bharti Walmart, in a statement said, “Lack of employment options for youth with basic educational qualifications is emerging as a major concern in India. Through our training centres, we endeavour to provide such youth the opportunity to avail of free-of-cost training in retail so that they become employable.”

“We particularly focus on women and prepare them for their first jobs and careers in retail. Of those trained at our centre, 33 per cent are women,” she said.

The Bharti Walmart Training Centres offer a two-week vocational certification course. It has a mix of faculty interaction and exposure to modern retail shop floors.
