Bharti Walmart, a joint venture between Bharti Enterprises and Walmart, today launched Bharti Walmart Training Centre at Hyderabad.

This is being taken up on a Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode with the Government of Andhra Pradesh. The centre will provide free-of-cost training to underprivileged youth and equip them with requisite skills for cash-and-carry and organised retail formats.

Arti Singh, Senior Vice President, Corporate Affairs, Bharti Walmart, in a statement said, "The retail sector in India is growing at an exponential rate and therefore provides tremendous growth opportunities. The Central Government’s decision to allow FDI in multi-brand retail will provide further impetus to the retail sector."

She said the industry lacks the talent pool with required skill sets to leverage this huge potential. Through the Bharti Walmart Training Centres we aim to bridge this gap by imparting retail training to the youth of Andhra Pradesh and help create sustainable careers in the retail sector.

Shashi Bhushan Kumar, Director, Employment and Training, Government of Andhra Pradesh, said, "Bharti Walmart is involved in the training process from curriculum development, training and certification to placement assistance. The chances of acceptance for employment are quite bright and comfort levels of the trained candidates are high from day one."

The training curriculum is based on Walmart’s global best practices and will be implemented through Centum Learning, who will run the Centre. It offers short-term vocational certification courses that equip them to become Floor and Sales Assistants or Supervisors. Over 15,000 students have been certified and over 5400 have been placed in several companies.
