Bharti Walmart has joined hands with the Maharashtra Government to train youth in retail skills free-of-cost. It has set up Bharti Walmart Training Centre at Jalna in public-partnership with the Government.

In February, the company had signed a memorandum of understanding with the Government to launch three training centres at Thane, Aurangabad and Jalna in Maharashtra.

Bharti Walmart currently runs three training centres in public-private partnership in Punjab, Delhi and Bangalore, besides three on its own at Zirakpur, Jalandhar and Ludhiana in Punjab. It has trained 10,400 people at the centres. About 4,000 students have been placed on campus interview done by leading Indian companies, said a press release issued by Bharti Walmart.

Mr Murali Lanka, Senior Vice-President (Operations), Bharti Walmart, said the industry lacks the talent pool with required skill sets to leverage the huge potential in the retail trade. “Our training centres aim to bridge this gap by imparting training on various aspects of retailing to under-privileged youth making them job-ready for their first employment in the retail sector,” he said.

Bharti Walmart, is a joint venture between Bharti Enterprises and Walmart Stores Inc, for wholesale cash-and-carry and back-end supply chain management operations in India to serve small retailers, manufacturers and farmers.
