Public sector equipment maker BHEL on Thursday said it has bagged orders worth Rs 1,143 crore from NTPC to set up a 500-megawatt power generating unit at its Vindhyachal Super Thermal Power Station (STPS) in Madhya Pradesh.
“On commissioning of the unit, 12 million units of electricity will be added to the grid,” BHEL said in a statement.
With the commissioning of this unit, the cumulative generating capacity of the power station will be enhanced to 4,760 MW, making it India’s largest power generating station.
BHEL’s scope of work in the contract envisages design, engineering, manufacture, supply and erection and commissioning of steam generators and steam turbine generators along with associated auxiliaries and controls and instrumentation.
Equipment for the project will be manufactured at BHEL’s Tiruchi, Ranipet, Haridwar, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Bhopal plants.
