Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd has commissioned a 270-MW coal-based thermal power project of GVK Group in Punjab.
The unit has been commissioned at the upcoming 540 MW (2x270 MW) Goindwal Sahib coal-fired plant of GVK Power & Infrastructure Ltd, located at Tarn Taran district in Punjab. The second unit of 270 MW is also expected to be commissioned shortly.
BHEL had earlier this year commissioned four hydel power units of 82.5 MW each at Alaknanda hydro power project in Uttarakhand for GVK.
According to BHEL, these thermal power sets of 270 MW rating have been improvised in house from 210/250 MW sets supplied earlier by the company. BHEL has so far contracted 35 sets of 270 MW rating, out of which 10 sets have now been commissioned.
GVK had enlisted BHEL for the Goindwal Sahib project under design, engineering, manufacture, supply and erection and commissioning of steam turbine and implement the project.
While the boiler and its auxiliaries have been manufactured by BHEL Tiruchi and Ranipet units in Tamil Nadu, the steam turbine and generators were made at Haridwar plant. The pumps and heat exchangers have been made in Hyderabad and Bhopal plants, respectively.
BHEL has thus far supplied six units of 210 MW, two units of 210 MW and two units of 250 MW and 270 MW units in Goindwal Sahib, all in Punjab.
