The first 600 MW unit of the 2x600 MW (1,200 MW) thermal power project of mining company Singareni Collieries Company Ltd has been commissioned.
Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd has informed it has successfully commissioned the unit one of 600 MW of the coal-based thermal power plant coming up in Adilabad district of Telangana. The second unit of the same project is in an advanced stage of construction and is expected to be commissioned shortly.
Following the commissioning of the 600-MW unit I, the State-owned Singareni Collieries, the second largest coal mining company, has successfully diversified into power generation business.
According to BHEL, it has built 600-MW rating sets that comprise a four cylinder turbine. This has been designed in-house, amply demonstrating the engineering prowess of BHEL.
Thus far, BHEL said it has contracted 21 sets of 600 MW each, of which 15 have already been commissioned. A large number of similar sets ensure easy availability of spares and operator’s fraternity.
In December 2015, BHEL had also commissioned a 600-MW thermal power plant at Kakatiya thermal power plant in Telangana for the state–owned generation company TS Genco.
BHEL has a major contribution in Telangana with 85 per cent of the coal–based power plants, together amounting to 5,180 MW, having been commissioned by BHEL.
Reposing faith in BHEL, the Telangana Government has recently placed orders for around 6,000 MW of thermal power projects in the State, on engineering, procurement construction (EPC) basis.
