BHEL unit commissions 13 MW solar projects

The Electronics Division of State-owned Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has commissioned 13 MW of solar power plants across the country under its solar photovoltaic business in 2011-2012. The company aims to commission 20 MW of PV projects during the current year.

The projects include a 3-MW grid-connected solar power plant at Raichur, in Karnataka; a 5-MW Plant in Rajasthan; two plants of 2-MW each in Maharashtra and 1 MW in the Lakshadweep Islands.

The 5-MW grid-connected solar power plant at Rajasthan is for Indian Oil Corporation, and the two 2-MW plants are for M/s Sepset Constructions and M/s Citra Real Estate of IREDA (Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency). These have been commissioned under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM), according to a press statement. The 3-MW grid-connected solar power plant in Raichur is for the Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL).

BHEL is executing a 1.9-MW order from the Lakshadweep Administration for augmentation and modernization of existing solar power plants at various islands, of which 1.1 MW has been commissioned, the statement said. Out of these island projects, the biggest Diesel Grid-Interactive PV plant of India of 760-KW is already operational in the island of Kavaratti since October 2011 and a 320-KW PV Power Plant at Andrott island has been commissioned in January 2012, the statement added.
