Executive Vice-Chairman of Fortis Healthcare Ltd Shivinder M Singh has decided to quit his present role in the healthcare chain. Announcing his decision to join a spiritual services organisation, Singh said he would continue to associate with Fortis as non-Executive Vice-Chairman from January 1, 2016.

Singh said at the Annual General Meeting of Fortis that he will take up full-time service at the Radha Soami Satsang Beas (RSSB), a spiritual organisation headquartered near Amritsar. He will, therefore, step down from the position of Executive Vice-Chairman and become the Non-Executive Vice-Chairman with effect from January 1, 2016. His brother Malvinder M Singh will continue to be the company’s Executive Chairman, while the recently appointed CEO Bhavdeep Singh will be responsible for running the business.

Both the brothers told the AGM that RSSB had immense influence on their lives. “Having spent almost two decades setting up and running Fortis, our mission of saving and enriching lives is an integral part of my being. Over time this has inspired me to do more direct service and give back to society a little of what I have received in abundance. A short while ago, I requested for Sewa (service) at Radha Soami Beas and I am fortunate to have been accepted. I will move to Dera, Beas post transitioning my executive responsibilities at Fortis,” Shivinder Singh said.

He said the businesses are stable and Fortis is on a promising trajectory. “This has no doubt facilitated my decision. I am confident that the depth of leadership across the group is well placed to continue to deliver value to customers, employees, and stakeholders as well as strengthen our core values,” he said, adding that the decision was taken with the support of his elder brother Malvinder Singh.

Malvinder Singh said he supports the personal decision of his brother. “It is not always that one gets to commit oneself in the service of society and I am delighted that Shivinder is taking this step at this phase of his life,” the elder brother said.
