Birla Corporation Ltd (BCL), the flagship company of the M P Birla Group, has sought permission from the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests for a further increase in the cement output capacity at its Chanderia plant in Rajasthan, according to a company note.
According to Mr Harsh V. Lodha, Chairman of the company, the Chanderia capacity is proposed to be increased by another 1.5 million tonnes. After completion of project, BCL's total cement capacity will rise to 10.8 milllion tonnes a year and the capacity at Chanderia will grow to more than 5 million tonnes, a company release said.
Birla Corp currently produces 7.5 million tonnes a year (mtpa) from its facilities in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal and is implementing projects to step up production to 9.3 mtpa.
The company also has plans to spend about Rs 20 crore in 2011-12 on modernisation of the jute division.
