German luxury carmaker BMW on Thursday launched its new (sixth) generation 5-Series priced between Rs 46.90 lakh and Rs 57.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Produced at the company’s Chennai plant, it will be available in four diesel variants.
“The BMW 5-Series is one of the core models in our product portfolio in India. We have sold over a million units globally of the current generation, launched three-and-a-half years ago,” said Philipp von Sahr, President, BMW Group India. The company will launch its eighth car next year. The seven models being assembled at the Chennai facility include the 1, 3, 5 and 7 Series; X1, X3 and Mini Countryman. BMW is investing Rs 390 crore in the Chennai plant by the end of this calendar year, of which Rs 180 crore will be the additional amount for the second assembly line. The company has also ramped up production to 14,000 units from 11,000 units annually.
