Bombay Dyeing will hand over 33 per cent of open land at its mill premises in Dadar and Lower Parel here to the Government.
This follows a Supreme Court direction to the company to hand over 33 per cent of its land to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA).
This is for setting aside open spaces, besides transit camp accommodation and houses for mill workers. It had been earmarked for the BMC and MHADA under the mill-land redevelopment scheme.
Jeh Wadia, Managing Director, said, “The issue was never of handing over but of when we are entitled to handover as per the law. We have already considered the handing over in our planning and designing of both our properties, and therefore, does not affect or delay any of our commitments to our customers on our recently launched residential towers and retail high street.”
Bombay Dyeing said it needs to be clarified that the company does not hand over 33 per cent of the total land but only areas which were open and not built on at the time of DCR 58 (Development Control Rules) modification in 2001.
Earlier this year, a division bench of the Bombay High Court dismissed the petition of Bombay Dyeing challenging stop-work notices issued by the Monitoring Committee for its failure to handover the land to BMC and MHADA. The High Court stayed its order till July 31, and extended it till August 17, giving Bombay Dyeing time to appeal to the Supreme Court.
