The second phase of Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions (RBEI’s) facility was inaugurated at CHIL-SEZ, Keeranatham Village, Coimbatore. The 2.50 lakh sq ft facility has a total seating capacity of 1500+. It includes a knowledge centre and car testing bay.
The knowledge centre is a repository of scientific and technical material with environment to foster a culture of research and innovation.
Taking select media people around the facility that has been established here and inaugurated by former ISRO Chairman K Kasturirangan, the Managing Director of RBEI, Vijay Ratnaparkhe, said Coimbatore has taken the lead in product development and the facility here is by far the largest engineering centre for Bosch outside of Germany.
The team here has, since commencement of operations in 2006, managed more than 500 patents with an eye on newness of technology and cost reduction; people are working on complete products,” he said, adding “Bosch is committed to improving the quality of life.”
RBEI’s next generation solutions and products are engineered in sync with frugal innovation and a local focus to help people and organisations use technology and information to solve everyday problems, RK Shenoy, Senior Vice-President, said.
Salient features Highlighting the uniqueness of the facility here, Ratnaparkhe said, “the complete software responsibility for a global project on vehicle safety based on antilock braking control has been developed here; complete software projects of “in-car dashboard systems” for many premium OEMs are delivered out of Coimbatore; research is under way to understand the system behaviour in hybrid and fully electric vehicles; RBEI has invested in a Car Test Bay facility and this will be used to prepare vehicles for calibration and validation of engine management functions.” The investment on the second phase is estimated at around ₹ 350 crore.
