Bosch Power Tools on expansion drive

Bosch Power Tools, a part of the diversified Bosch group, today said that the company plans to expand its manufacturing unit located near Bangalore next year, while consolidating its market leadership position with new product range and stepping up local output.

“With a market share of over one third in power tools business in the country, we are looking at further strengthening the base by the launch of new products, including gadgets that help measure room dimension without the use of traditional tape. The market for tools in India is estimated to be about Rs 850 crore last year and growing at about 10 per cent per annum,” Mr Vijay Pandey, Vice-President, Power Tools Division, Bosch Ltd, said.

Business Line after the launch of the company’s 41st Bosch System Specialist (BSS), Mr Pandey said: “the company’s tool division has been growing at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of about 25 per cent per annum over the last three years. We hope to sustain this growth as there is latent demand from artisans and skilled workers to adopt power tools.”

“While about 70 per cent of the products and tools sold by the company in India are imported from manufacturing plants based in Germany, China and Malaysia. We sell 30 per cent of the products made from the manufacturing unit near Bangalore. We are looking at expanding this facility next year. Over a period, we see Bosch making more products in India,” he said.

“Last year we sold over 6,00,000 units, including power tools. We are looking at a sales volume of over 9,00,000 during the current year. The number of BSS stores will also go up by 15 more during the year and to 100 by 2015,” Mr Pandey said.
