The Germany-based BSH Home Appliances Manufacturing Pvt Ltd will step up its production capacity in India to cater to the growing demand.
The company’s Chennai plant has a total production capacity of 3 lakh units working at 50 per cent capacity utilisation. The company produced 1.5 lakh front-load washing machines last fiscal and sold 1 lakh units.
Gunjan Srivastava, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, said, “The front-load washing machine category is growing at a CAGR of 35-40 per cent.” The company will increase current production capacity over the next three years to cater to the growing demand. Around 20 per cent of total manufactured goods are exported to Australia, New Zealand and Vietnam.
Apart from washing machines, the company’s product portfolio includes refrigerators, built-in kitchen appliances like oven and dishwashers. Currently manufacturing of refrigerators is outsourced to a third party facility in Pune. Based on the demand, the company plans to manufacture refrigerators in the Chennai plant.
