Cairn India has appointed oil and gas exploration experts Melody Meyer and Atul Gupta on its team to drive the company’s aim of contributing 50 per cent of India’s overall crude production. According to a company official, both Meyer and Gupta have been appointed as Technical Advisors.
Cairn India seeks to invest Rs 30,000 crore in five new projects. These are essentially Enhanced Oil Recovery projects for Bhagyam and Aishwariya, Raageshwari Deep Gas (RDG), Barmer Hill tight oil and Aishwariya Hill tight oil. According to a company official, Meyer and Gupta would be heading specific projects so the company can achieve its targets.
A press statement from the company said the new appointees would target growing and sustaining production at 300,000 barrels of oil and oil equivalent per day from Cairn India’s 5 billion barrels of oil equivalent reserves.
Meyer has 37 years of experience with Chevron Corporation and was the President, Asia-Pacific, where she was responsible for driving Chevron’s E&P activities across nine countries in the region.
Gupta has over 36 years of experience and currently advises private equity firms and sits on the boards of a number of upstream oil and gas companies, including Nostrum (Kazakhstan), Seven Energy (Nigeria) and Vetra Energy (Colombia). He was also the Managing Director of Hindustan Oil Exploration Co Ltd of HOEC Bardahl India from August 2006 to August 2008.
