Canon India has unveiled a range of seven models of professional video cameras for the domestic market. The cost varies from a low of ₹1 lakh to a high of ₹4.25 lakh, according to Gaurav Markan, National Business Manager, Cinema and Broadcast Division, Canon India.
This signals the full-fledged entry of the company into this sector. The estimated domestic market size for such cameras is around 30,000 units a year. “We expect to garner 15-20 per cent market share in the next three years,” Markan told Business Line .
Two more models would be launched in July. The focus would be on catering to the growing demands in event coverage (weddings, corporate etc), education, documentary, electronic news gathering, TV and cinema, he said.
The video cameras are manufactured at Canon’s Tokyo plant. They will be imported for sale here. They were launched in a couple of metros recently. Canon India has established full-fledged master service centres in all metros and top cities. Special training programmes have been conducted for technicians to provide good after-sale service.
Markan said that last year the company brought Cinema US camera here to cater to the film segment. It has done well by selling over 200 cameras in a year and will expand it further.
Asked about competition from Sony and Panasonic, he said Canon was well established in the Indian market and would definitely grow.
