Canon India has been slowly diversifying its portfolio to broaden its revenue streams.

Known mostly as a camera-maker, it is now also present as a provider of printing and management services which are outsourced to them. Launched two years ago, Canon India has already tied up with 65 large enterprises for the same. “This segment accounts for almost one third of the B2B office imaging business,” says Mr Alok Bharadwaj, Senior VP, Canon India. Commercial printing is another Rs 100 crore annual business for Canon.

The business is a year old after Canon acquired the Dutch based company, Oce that made large printing presses for printing books and bills.

“Customer service management is our investment focus at present and we are also open to exploring medical imaging in future,” adds Mr Bharadwaj.

He adds, “We have by now 70 retail stores selling only Canon products in 42 towns. We are now looking to expand to 300 stores by 2014, spread over 100 towns.” The company hopes to garner Rs 150 crore by year-end from its retail stores.

Last month, it announced entry into cinematography imaging business domain targeting Bollywood and broadcast applications with its new cinema EOS product line.

The company unveiled three advanced Cinema EOS range cameras, including the EOS C300, EOS C500 and EOS 1D-C, along with 11 new Cinema EOS lenses. heena.k@thehindu.co.in
