Online jewellery retailing portal CaratLane.com has launched Cash-On-Delivery facility across 214 cities in India for purchases up to Rs 49,000.
This step will bring CaratLane.com closer to a wider customer base across the country that have access to the Internet, but not necessarily a financial instrument such as a credit or debit card, a press statement said.
It is also expected to play a role in getting the first time online shopper, particularly from tier 2-3 geographies, to look at online shopping favourably, the statement said.
According to the statement, the facility was launched primarily to enable customers get over the apprehension of making online payments and has helped Indian e-commerce reach out to a wide base of shoppers across rural and semi-urban India without the precondition of possessing a banking card. Nearly half of all online shopping in India is reportedly with the cash-on-delivery option, the statement said.
