Coal India Ltd’s output during the first 11 months of 2012-13 stood at 398 million tonnes against the target of 413 mt. The company said this in a filing to the BSE today.
It has targeted a production of 464 mt for the entire 2012-13. CIL’s offtake during April-February period of the fiscal was 419 mt against the target of 425 mt.
The Maharatna firm, which accounts for over 80 per cent of the domestic coal production, produced 42.6 mt in February, while the target was 44.3 mt. Offtake stood at 39.7 mt last month.
The coal firm had missed its revised production target of 447 mt during last fiscal as well.
Recently, Coal Secretary S.K. Srivastava had said that CIL would miss the 464 mt production target for the current fiscal by 2-3 mt and attributed the shortfall to workers’ resorting to strike and other issues.
The company had produced 435.84 mt of coal in 2011-12.
