Clariant setting up new healthcare packaging plant

Switzerland-based chemical company Clariant began the construction of its new healthcare packaging manufacturing plant in Cuddalore that will produce moisture-control products for the pharmaceutical industry.

According to a press release, the facility will be built at an investment of ₹68 crore and the funding will be implemented through its wholly-owned subsidiary in India. The plant will be operational from 2017.

The new plant will produce desiccant canisters and packets, which are inserted into pharmaceutical packaging to control moisture and protect the stability of the medicine. Deepak Parikh, Clariant Region President – India, said in the release that the facility will enable the company to expand current capacities and provide access to customers in the pharmaceutical packaging segment in the country.

The release quoting Ketan Premani, Head Clariant Healthcare Packaging Sales, said, “This new facility will be integrated into our global healthcare packaging manufacturing infrastructure, allowing us to support strong regional demand.”

The company has 10 production sites in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu and a regional innovation centre in Mumbai.
