Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Swachh Bharat — Clean India — by October 2, 2019 is laudable and is India’s biggest ever cleanliness drive, according to Venu Srinivasan, Chairman, TVS Motor Company.
He welcomed Modi’s initiatives of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and women empowerment. The Prime Minister has been emphasising on the urgent need for change in societal values with regard to women empowerment and protection, Srinivasan said in a press release.
Over the last 20 years, TVS Motor Company through its CSR arm, Srinivasan Services Trust (SST) has been focusing on hygiene, sanitation and women empowerment in over 2,500 villages. SST works on reducing open defecation, which helps improving personal hygiene and sanitation of villages.
SST’s awareness and motivation efforts have resulted in construction of 91,000 individual toilets, 100 community toilets and 700 school toilets. These were provided to the villages by the Government under its welfare schemes.
