Cloudnine Hospitals, a provider of infant and maternal care services, has partnered with California-based Masimo to provide Congenital Heart Services (CHD) screening for newborn babies.

This screening facility will be available across all its 14 hospitals in the country. CHD is a birth defect, which according to research afflicts 1 out of 100 babies born. The birth defect requires advanced screening methods. These include pulse oximetry screening, an effective and non-invasive tool that is being adopted in many countries, according to Bharat Monteiro, Country Manager, India and sub-continent, for Masimo.

Kishore Kumar, Chairman and Senior Neonatologist at Cloudnine Hospitals, added that this screening would be included in the existing offering. Masimo has developed a technology that is being used in 1.2 million devices globally and claims to have higher accuracy rates than other devices.

In countries such as Sweden and the US, oximetry screening is used extensively. Critical Congenital Heart Disease affects 19 out 1,000 infants in India and if not detected early, can lead to health complexities.

“Using our technology, in combination with changes in clinical practices, has led to a 31 per cent increase in the detection of new-borns with this condition,” said Jon Coleman, President, worldwide sales, professional services and medical affairs, at Masimo.
