Coal India Ltd (CIL) has set up an Initiatives, Monitoring and Control cell (IMC) at its corporate office to rush coal to thermal power stations facing critical stocks and avoid shortage of fuel.

The round-the-clock monitoring will be done on a real-time basis.

Similar 24x7 IMCs have been set up at all coal producing subsidiaries of CIL with a toll-free number, the company said in a release.

“We plan to monitor production and despatch of coal closely,” said Gopal Singh, Chairman.

The monitoring primarily aims at coordination with Railways, power utilities or Independant Power Producers. It also encompasses coal production and transportation from mines to the railheads and dispatch points, movement of rakes with special emphasis on turn-around within the free time loading allowed by the Railways, crushing arrangements and hassle free functioning at weighing facilities.

The control room is manned by officers of the production and marketing department who will be in constant consultation with higher authorities to respond to any crisis situation.

In a bid to boost coal supplies to thermal power plants, CIL is temporarily regulating fuel movement to non-power sector pushing additional coal to the plants, the company said.
