Coal India has decided on a near 149 per cent hike in the daily wages of contract workers engaged in mining activities. The hike will be implemented in the company’s eight subsidiaries.

The subsidiary companies that will implement the hike are MCL (Sambalpur), BCCL (Dhanbad), WCL (Nagpur), NCL (Singrauli), ECL (Sanctoria), SECL (Bilaspur), CCL (Ranchi) and CMPDIL (Ranchi).

The board of directors of Coal India approved the hike on February 13.

The basic rate per day of wages for unskilled to highly skilled employees varies between Rs 464 to Rs 554.
