Premium passenger carmaker Honda Cars India (HCIL) on Wednesday launched its third generation Jazz hatchback priced between ₹5.31 lakh and ₹8.59 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The new car from Honda’s stable will compete with the likes of Hyundai’s i20 Elite and Volkswagen's Polo.
“The all new Jazz will be a key pillar of business and would be instrumental in driving the growth for Honda Cars in India,” Katsushi Inoue, President and CEO, HCIL, said here at the launch.
The new Jazz would be available in both diesel (1.5Li-DTEC engine) and petrol (1.2 L i-VTEC) fuel options. While the petrol version comes with seven variants priced between ₹5.31 lakh and ₹7.85 lakh, the diesel engine has five variants priced at ₹6.50 lakh - ₹8.59 lakh (all ex-showroom, Delhi).
The diesel variant is exclusively for the Indian market, the company said adding that it will offer a fuel economy of 27.3km/l (as per tests). It will deliver a maximum power of 100ps@3600 rpm and maximum torque of 200 N-m@1750 rpm. It has been mated to a newly developed 6-speed Manual Transmission, it said.
India is the first country where Jazz would be offered with a diesel powertrain and Honda says, apart from India, there is no plan to introduce a diesel Jazz anywhere in the world. The new car has been developed at Honda’s R&D centre located in Tochigi, Japan.Jazz was first launched in India in 2009, but the company stopped production of the car in the country in 2013.
