As part of its corporate social responsibility, Coromandel International Ltd, the leading phosphatic fertilizer manufacturer, has decided to contribute Rs 65 lakhs for carrying out repairs and renovation of the building and procurement of life-saving equipment for the paediatric block of the historic Government General Hospital here.

Kapil Mehan, the Managing Director of Coromandel International Ltd, handed over the letter confirming the contribution to the hospital to Neetu Kumari Prasad, East Godavari District Collector, here on Tuesday.

The 150-year-old Kakinada Government General Hospital, the major health services provider to the people of East and West Godavari districts, has been experiencing great growth in demand for advanced paediatric services. Thousands of sick children and prematurely born babies are being treated here every year.

The donation will be used for purchase of four ventilators for the paediatric intensive care unit and conversion of old neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) into a paediatric general ward besides development of infrastructure and provision of amenities in the ward. The hospital authorities have decided to name the paediatric block as Coromandel paediatric ward.

Kapil Mehan said, “It is our hope that this contribution will improve the health of prematurely born babies in the vicinity of Kakinada.”

A. Vellayan, Chairman of Murugappa Group, termed the contribution as a demonstration of the group’s resolve to support institutions that share common objectives with the government in addressing the healthcare issues.
