Credit space for the retail sector should be enhanced to address the financial challenges, Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Secretary Anup K Pujari said.
It was critically important to enhance the credit space available to the retail sector to address its financial challenges, he said.
“Merely by granting industry status to retail segment will not tide over its challenges and help ease the access to the credit,” Pujari said at the CII National Retail Summit here.
He further said that MSMEs in the retail segment were automatically covered under the priority sector, where 40 per cent of the credit has been allocated.
Pujari added that all format of retail as organised and e-commerce could co-exist.
“I am confident in the Indian retail landscape newer concepts will emerge that will take care of interests of all stakeholders,” he added.
