Crompton Greaves will establish a 100 MVA (mega volt ampere) power transformer plant and high tension switchgear unit at a cost of $30 million (about Rs 135 crore) in Brazil.
Crompton Greaves said the company had through its overseas subsidiary had concluded an agreement for acquiring land for the project.
“This expansion will create a local manufacturing platform that will transform the company into a significant player in the Latin American Market,” it said.
The installed capacity of the plant will be about 6,000 MVA.
Brazil is the biggest transmission and distribution market in Latin America of about $2.3 billion (Rs 10,350 crore) and a burgeoning domestic demand. A 10-year energy expansion plan pegs Brazil's consumption to go up to 620,000 GW from 350,000 GW.
