Crompton Greaves has set up an extra high voltage (EHV) switchgear manufacturing plant in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.
The annual manufacturing capacity is over 500 HV breakers, 1,000 lightning arresters and 300 instrument transformers. Crompton expects the plant to generate revenues of over $50 million annually. Crompton Greaves will manufacture a full range of EHV switchgear targeted at the Brazilian utility market.
The total market is estimated at over $1 billion and the company intends to introduce its latest models and provide Brazilian customers with a 30 per cent reduction in lead time. Crompton expects to reach more than 10 per cent of the market. It has already received orders worth more than $6 million.
“Brazil is a key region for the development of Crompton Greaves. The company has already a large installed base in the region with more than 1,500 breakers in operation,” said Mr Laurent Demortier, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director.
