Engines maker Cummins has opened the Phaltan Midrange Upfit Center (PMUC) at the Cummins Megasite in Phaltan. This is its fifth facility at the Megasite.
The Up-fit Center has been established to assemble, up-fit, test and paint diesel and gas engines, both mechanical and electronic, of the B and L series. Additionally, the facility will also manufacture C series engines. This entire range will cater to the power generation and industrial businesses of Cummins along with highway applications.
The modern facility would span seven acres and is designed to manufacture 80 engines each day in two shifts, with the ability to expand its capacity to meet the future demand at minimal investment.
The Center will employ approximately 155 employees.
Mahesh Narang, Chief Operating Officer - Cummins Group in India said, “The launch of this facility with the existing facilities at the Megasite allows us to leverage operational efficiencies.”
The Cummins Megasite was conceived six years ago to house ongoing and future expansions of the Cummins group in India.
In March 2008, three Cummins entities were awarded ‘Mega Project’ status by the Maharashtra Government for their Cummins Megasite projects. In January 2011, Cummins announced the opening of three facilities at the Megasite, which included Tata Cummins Ltd’s second manufacturing facility, an engine rebuild centre and a reconditioning facility for re-manufacturing engines and components. Later, in August 2011, the IPDC (India Parts Distribution Center) facility was opened to enhance supply chain efficiency in aftermarket parts distribution.
