The new Chairman of Tata Group holding company Tata Sons, Cyrus P. Mistry, visited Delhi on Friday for the first time after taking over from Ratan Tata.
He met Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission.
The meeting lasted for over 45 minutes. However, it was not clear what transpired as Mistry declined comments after the meet. He also met External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid.
Mistry, 44, took over from Tata on December 28 as Chairman of not just Tata Sons, but of all major Tata companies, including Tata Industries, Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Tata Consultancy Services, Tata Power, Tata Teleservices, Indian Hotels, Tata Global Beverages and Tata Chemicals.
He has been a director since 2006.
His date with key policymakers in the Capital assumes significance in view of the group’s investment plans. In his first communication to employees on January 2, he reiterated the group’s commitment to India with an additional investment of Rs 45,000 crore over two years.
“With a sustained focus on policy stability and implementation, I believe that India would continue to be an attractive investment destination,” he said in the mail.
“I look forward to our group playing its role in continuing to invest in the Indian growth story,” he had added in the email.
