With the launch of the ‘Go’ model on Wednesday, Japanese carmaker Nissan’s Datsun brand entered India. The car’s price will range between ₹3.12 lakh and ₹3.70 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
The Datsun Go will compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki India’s Alto (both 800 and K10) and Hyundai Motor India’s Eon.
“The Indian car market is very competitive and with Datsun we are entering a segment we can’t address with the Nissan brand. We expect the Datsun brand to contribute half to one-third of Nissan’s sales in India,” Kenichiro Yomura, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Nissan Motor India, told reporters here.
Powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine (three-cylinder), the entry-level car will be available in three variants — D, A and T — priced at ₹3,12,270, ₹3,46,482 and ₹3,69,999, respectively (all ex-showroom, New Delhi), the company said, adding that it would give a mileage of around 20kmpl.
The Datsun Go is manufactured at Nissan’s Oragadam plant near Chennai, which is a joint venture between Nissan and France-based automaker Renault.
