Japanese auto major Nissan on Thursday unveiled its mini-car — Redi-GO — under the Datsun brand, which will be launched in June.
The company, however, did not announce the price of car, which is the third product of the Datsun brand that entered two years back.
According to market experts, it is expected to be priced between ₹2.50 lakh and ₹4 lakh and will be competing with the likes of Eon from Hyundai Motor India and Kwid of Renault India.
The company claims the Datsun Redi-GO, is the first urban-cross in the Indian market that combines the roominess, best in class ground clearance (185mm) and sheer fun of a crossover and blends that with zippy driving and fuel efficiency of an affordable compact hatchback.
The car is 100 per cent designed and developed in India with 98 per cent localisation, the company said.
“Datsun's growth strategy in India will continue to reflect our commitment to local engineering, development and manufacturing. The Datsun Redi-GO, as a tangible expression of this commitment, offers several best-in-class capabilities,” said Guillaume Sicard, President, Nissan India Operations.
It is based on the Common Module Family (CMF-A) platform from the Renault-Nissan Alliance and is powered by an all-new 0.8L three-cylinder fuel efficient engine paired with a five-speed manual transmission.
The bookings for the model will start in May and deliveries will begin in June, the company added.
