How would it be if this Diwali, instead of receiving another box of sweets or dry fruits, you were to get a choice to opt for an exciting rafting trip or get a beauty makeover or even try your hand at a pottery, yoga or cooking class?

Dhoombox, a new Indo-French joint venture launched on October 11, attempts to provide just that and redefine the concept of gifting in India.

To begin with, it has introduced three boxes with the themes of children, adventure and wellness, offering over 20 activities and experiences each. The offer is explained in the catalogue included in each theme box, along with the gift voucher.

The Project Manager of Dhoombox, Ms Blance Martin, said: “After another four to six weeks, we would be launching our remaining two theme boxes on ‘Getaway' and ‘Gastronomy'. We believe in the market potential of our product as people are tired of gifting and receiving the same limited category of things on festivals, weddings, birthday parties or anniversaries, and are looking for newer options to take away the headache of gifting.

“Besides making gifting a pleasurable experience, it can also be used as an excellent marketing tool for our corporate clients as well as service providers.”

Eyeing to sell the product through the three channels of Internet sales, B2B for corporate clients and retailers in the next months, the pricing has been kept at Rs 1,199 to Rs 8,999 a box while the initial investment is about Rs 1 crore through the promoter funder model, said the Dhoombox Director, Mr Mathieu Jouve-Villard. “We hope to capture between 5 and 10 per cent of the box segment of the $30 billion gifting market in India in the next five years.”
