Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has urged cable television subscribers to ensure that they fill and submit the consumer application form (CAF) to their respective cable operators by June 25. Failing this, the Multi System Operators can switch off the signal.
In a statement, TRAI said, “The reason for this was in terms of the Digital Addressable Cable TV Systems Regulations, 2012, the MSOs can transmit digital signals and activate the set top boxes only after receiving the CAF from the consumer with her/his preference. If there is no form, the MSOs are obliged under the law not to transmit signals and deactivate the cable connection.”
MSOs have been pushing consumers to fill these forms while broadcasters have been running scrolls and tickers on their channels to educate consumers about CAF.
The broadcast and telecom regulator said that it had reviewed the progress and observed that even though there has been an increase in the number of subscribers who have provided the details with cable operators, cable operators and MSOs still do not have complete details of consumers.
