As the war between cable and Direct-to-home (DTH) players heats up, DTH service provider Dish TV on Wednesday announced a special package for consumers in the four metros of New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai which have to go digital by the end of this month.
New subscribers of Dish TV will have access to over 70 channels free-of-cost for five years in these four cities. Most of the channels in this basic tier are free to air besides some paid channels. Viewers availing this offer will have to remain active by subscribing to a regular package at least twice during a year.
R.C. Venkateish, Chief Executive Officer, Dish TV, said: “This is a highly differentiated and extremely consumer friendly move. Consumers in the four metros are apprehensive about this sudden switch off of their highly valued TV viewing. This will translate into huge competitive advantage for Dish TV.”
Added Salil Kapoor COO, Dish TV, added: “Keeping in mind TRAI’s direction, some cable operators have already announced a Rs 100 monthly charge for basic tier. We have decided to provide the basic tier free of cost in the wake of digitisation.”
