Direct-to-home (DTH) satellite TV service provider DishTV has been ordered by a consumer forum here to pay Rs 7,000 as compensation to a subscriber for its failure to attend to his complaints immediately.
The North West District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum said it was the duty of DishTV to take up immediately the complaints of the subscriber, Haryana native Someshwar Sharma, and not doing so amounts to deficiency in service.
“Since complainant (Sharma) suffered loss in transmission and had lodged complaints with the opposite party (DishTV), it was its duty to immediately attend to these complaints.
“The fact that these complaints were not attended to immediately amounts to deficiency on the part of the opposite party. We, therefore, direct it to pay the complainant a sum of Rs 7,000 as compensation which will also include the cost of litigation,” the bench presided by Rakesh Kapoor said.
The bench also comprising of member Prem Lata passed the order on Sharma’s plea, which alleged his complaints regarding interruptions in the satellite TV transmission were never attended on time by DishTV and he had to wait for a number of days before the problem could be resolved.
The forum relied on the version submitted by Sharma as Dish TV “failed to file its written statement on record.”
“Since the opposite party has chosen not to file a written statement, we are constrained to hold that the version of the complainant is the true version leading to the filing of the present complaint,” it said.
