Disney Channel is bringing BBC’s well-known Mastermind quiz to India, but with a difference. This is Family Mastermind where a child will be the captain of a four-member team which will consist of parents and a sibling or relative. Two family teams will compete with each other. The show will launch on February 25 and run Monday to Thursday every week at 7.30 p.m.

Speaking to Business Line , Vijay Subramaniam, Executive Director, Kids Network – Disney UTV, said this is the first time Disney is featuring a quiz programme.

The first season will have 110 episodes with children aged 7-14.

Actor Benjamin Gilani will host the show. Disney hopes the show will bring in new viewers including more adults. The quiz is part of the channel’s agenda to feature more locally relevant shows, which account for nearly 35 per cent of the channel’s content now. Disney’s own international shows make up 30 per cent and licensed shows such as Doraemon account for the rest.

BBC is producing the show, which it has licensed to Disney Channel, said Myleeta Aga, General Manager and Creative Head, BBC Worldwide Productions India.

Mastermind, a 30-year-old-show, is known for its challenging questions, intimidating settings and an individual quiz format. It has been conducted in several countries and there have been variations including Junior Mastermind and Celebrity Mastermind.
